The second gift from the Spirit Keeper of the North that is represented and honored by the middle Stone of the "path" from the North to the center circle and Creator, is Renewal.

Before working with the Spirits of the Totems for Renewal it is important to work with the previous Gift, Cleansing. One certainly would not want to renew any negative traits or energies!

The very powerful Totem Spirit for this Gift is Earthworm. Two-leggeds usually play with Earthworm or use them for bait. We should be learning from them and helping them with vermiculture. Earthworm should be respected for his/her extensive powers of renewal, transformation, earth healing, regeneration, self-healing, and stamina. Working with Earthworm Spirit will help you with the development of these powers in yourself. You can sit on Mother Earth and contemplate how Earthworm is working on healing and renewing her. Ask them to help you learn to do the same, for yourself and for our Earth Mother.

When it came time to build the page for Earthworm, I spent two or three days looking for a background and Earthworm images. Had just about despaired when I stumbled on Cyberworm's World Wide Worm Tour!, which is similar to a WebRing. Imagine! Many positive pages devoted to the Earthworm. I wish to share a few here:

Clump of Red Clover - very good for 'medicine' uses Red Clover © http://buglady.clc.uc.edu/index.htm

The plant totem for this position is Red Clover (Trifolium pratense). Red Clover is a member of the legume family like peas, beans, peanuts, soybeans, and alfalfa, which are often used to renew nitrogen supplies in soils. These Plants have root nodules containing Bacteria of the genus Rhizobium (rhizo- or rhiz- a prefix meaning Root). These Bacteria can convert atmospheric nitrogen, which cannot be used by Plants, into Nitrate (NO3¯), a form that can be used. [Paraphrased from information found in Encarta® 98 Desk Encyclopedia © 1996-97]

As you can see, the Spirit of Red Clover, if asked, can assist us in learning transformation and Renewal. When in need of this Gift carry some of the blossoms and leaves in a small medicine bag, under your clothes, next to your body. Tea made from the raw boiled flowers is a good blood purifier and will rebuild parts of the body that need it. Some consider this green growing Relation one of Creator's greatest Gift to humans.

Here is a good short article on the medicinal qualities of Red Clover, how much to take, side effects, etc. This page will open in a new window which can be closed when you wish to continue here.

Polished uncut Peridot - very good for 'medicine' uses

The lovely green Peridot, a gem quality of olivine is the mineral to use for Renewal. Even the small ones that are not candidates for cutting and faceting are excellent for this purpose. You can feel it, look into it. Some, you can see other "spirits" who have made their home there. I personally feel that these small uncut stones are superior for Spiritual work.

The Peridot that are good for faceting work into absolutely beautiful gems that rival the Emerald. These Peridot are often called "evening emeralds" for this reason;   the error in identification most often being made in artificial lights.

After working with Sodalite and Cleansing to remove stress, fear and guilt, working with Peridot will activate personal growth. Sun Bear and Wabun Wind say that Peridot brings qualities of freshness, rebirth, beauty, lightness, balance, and tranquility. (Dancing With The Wheel, page 134.)
For more information on the gem (mineral) Peridot please go to www.theimage.com. This page will open in a new window, which you can close when finished viewing.

The color for this Gift is Dark Green. Sun Bear and Wabun Wind point out that this is the lush deep green of Rain Forests, another Earth Mother color. This is a serious healing color, bestowing a new perspective, optimism, and Renewal on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual facets of our being. It often marks a positive turning point in one's healing process. When working for Renewal, visualize this color, and use it on you and in your environment.

(the background of this page is dark green in color)

NOTE: The description of the positions and totems and their meanings given on these pages is meant only as an introduction, and not a complete explanation. Meditate and study further for a more complete understanding.

A photographer friend, Maiden Fair, snapped the photo of the Earthworm at the top of this page partly because I asked her to. Thank you my friend.
